Spring of 2008 - our 6-wk "Migration Trip" through the south central flyway in our RV - So Co, ArkLaTex, Oklahoma and central Kansas

We saw 211 species on our trip without playing any "tapes", including many warblers and thrushes (almost all of which I failed to adequately photograph), and learned the vocalizations of many of the eastern birds. By the end of the trip the Eastern Bird Symphony was no longer a mystery to us and we were able to pick and choose the birds we chased, tuning out the rolling Carolina Wren song, the family-oriented Summer Tanager "chebunk", the protective Cardinal tic, and the insistent Tufted Titmice "peter". What a terrific trip! We spent an average of 3 days in each location, traveling the local areas in our Honda CRV and on our feet, poking into all the corners to see what would turn up. I recommend it, but remember to be aware of stormy weather that time of year.

East Texas is great in the spring and they have terrific state parks

We birded NW LA from Caddo

Then on to SW Arkansas

One of our favorite finds was the Red Slough on the OK-TX border in the far eastern corner of the state. What a wonderful wetland environment that is!!

The Great Salt Plains State Park and Salt Plains Wildlife Refuge were also a very pleasant surprise. Much more pleasant than the name sounds.

Quivera and Cheyenne Bottoms always good, especially Quivera in the evening light
