Four weeks searching Prairies and Potholes and trying to get out of the rain and the mud. It was an extremely wet year, wettest in history, so birds had no reason to congregate in selected places. Water-loving birds had plenty of choices. We missed a few major target birds, like LeConte's, Baird's, and Sprague Pipits, but saw more Bobolinks, Grey Catbirds, American Redstarts, Ovenbirds, American Bitterns, Clay-colored, Savannah and Grasshopper Sparrows, Pelicans, and Blue-winged Teals than we have ever seen before. upland Sandpipers and Lark Buntings were easy to spot also.
Lifers included Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow, Red-necked grebe, Ruffed Grouse, Chestnut-collared Longspur, Blackpoll Warbler.
